ianayres Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 HiI have an ongoing problem with my 1.9 td galaxy mk2.The original problem was the engine took a long time to warm up, if I drove for a few miles then turned off the engine for a minute and then continued driving it would then quickly attain the right temp. It was as if the stat was faulty.I have changed it and it now seems to take the same long period to warm up but if i,m coasting down a long descent (we live in the alps) the temp drops back down and the heater cools.Having changed the stat i,m now at a loss as what to do next.Is there a particular way to bleed air from the sytem? and does the stat have to sit in a certain orientation in its housing i.e. 2 oclock, 3 oclock (its in the right way).Thanks. Hi IanI don't know if this something that just happened, but today's diesel engines are very efficient, but as long as you are moving along(driving and not costing)the engine will run at normal temp, but in these cold times it will take longer to warm up. A long time ago you could get Summer/Winter stats, you don't seem to hear about them nowadays, but they might still do them , so it would warm up quicker, but as long as it gets to normal temp and stays there while driving then I would not worry Radiotwo Edited January 2, 2009 by RADIOTWO Quote
gregers Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 ian is your booster heater working correctly?. Quote
ianayres Posted January 3, 2009 Author Report Posted January 3, 2009 Hi Gregers. Now you mention it I have not heard the heater run on like it used to. Perhaps that could be the problem. Does it help to heat the engine as well?I think I read elsewhere that it has a glow plug to ignite the heater, is this failure a common problem and is it easy to change the plug? Many thanks. Quote
gregers Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 yes i think that could be your problem the booster helps warm the engine etc, more so the cabin read up on here type in booster heaters, the thread is about as long as 'war and peace' but extremely informative, hth Quote
